I was attracted to all kinds of music…gospel, classical. My father was a guitarist at church, there were cds of course, Youtube where everything can be found. Born in Bali in 2003, then spending his younger years in Jakarta before moving to the US in 2014 at the age of eleven, Alexander has pretty much dedicated his life to his art.Īlexander’s first inclinations for music came from his parents. Growing older usually means a normal lifestyle after their “Facebook fifteen minutes” are up, and as they age their talents become more ordinary compared to others of equal vintage who have practiced and studied their craft instead of being blessed out of the gate.Īlexander has continued on an artistic path, unlike most, and seems poised to push jazz piano to the next level. Luckily for Baby Grand members, Middle C Jazz fans and Charlotteans in general, we are going to see a former child prodigy ply his trade here very soon when award-winning pianist Joey Alexander comes to town! He may possibly be the one to answer the question of how someone who starts off so talented while so very young manages to handle their talent as they grow into adulthood. How many of us watch and wish we could call ourselves one of the best at what we do? How many of us even know someone like that? Rarer than hen’s teeth are these people. Whatever the case, it is amazing to watch, knowing as adults the possibilities that lay ahead for such youngsters, secretly just a little envious we were not blessed with the same gifts. Did her body catch the spirit of some long-gone professional drummer? Maybe just a piece of something divine floating through the ether? Then again, maybe this otherwise unobtainable amount of talent is the result of the union of two perfectly matched people whose combined genes could not help but create a little one with such skills. I swear I was never a believer in reincarnation until watching a four year old girl play the drums like Elvin Jones. And we wonder, as we watch with our eyes open as big as saucers at these wunderkinds, if that isn’t the case. Perched on the edge of a drum throne at a mountainous drumset set up for an adult as they play with precision something Buddy Rich would struggle to play, arms and legs moving independently as if the child is possessed by a soul much, much older than their own. My personal favorites are the child drummers. Runs that would break, twist and mangle the fingers and hands of those who have played these instruments for most of their lives, fall easily under their miniature counterparts. Awestruck, you watch transfixed as they play these complicated passages easily. They seem impossibly agile as their limbs and fingers flow, creating sounds even veteran musicians wish they could come up with. While occasionally scrolling Facebook or checking Youtube during your downtime you run across videos of these amazing child prodigies playing a guitar or bass bigger than their hands could possibly fret or maybe even seated at a piano with the spread of the keys seeming impossibly wide, too wide for them to possibly reach all of them, yet they play their instruments as if they’ve been playing them for forty years. 8/5/2023 0 Comments Grabit mediaNsndis5.sys antirun.exe hoolapp.exe GrabIt.exe w3sskbda.dll qsfvshll.dll slvoice.exe windowslivelogin.dll_bhodemondisabled bpfeed.dll desktopsearch.exe mcserver. I’d be pushing my bubble from left to right, like you would if your arms were up in the air but you’re trapped in there, and they’d be pushing their bubbles, side by side. “And the audience started to bounce along with me. “I started to kind of jump up and down in my space bubble on stage, which I hadn’t really done before,” Coyne recalls. I looked at the bubbles the day after to see if they looked any different or were cloudy, but they look they look pretty close to brand new.”Įven though Coyne and the Lips are used to playing in bubbles, playing to a crowd also encapsulated has been a new experience. “Then,” he continues, “someone with a with a pretty good suit on - so they’re not putting germs in there - goes in and wipes it down. It gets caught in the plastic folds and stuff. A lot of the alcohol will kind of evaporate, but some of it doesn’t. Let that sit for about an hour, and then we empty it of all the liquid that’s left. We let that sit for about an hour, then we go in and we blow it up again with the leaf blower. You can see it dripping up and down the sides and you can kind of get an idea that you’ve covered every surface in there with a good amount. “We slosh it around, and it coats it pretty well. “The next day we pour 20 ounces of the 70% alcohol right into the bubble and then blow it up,” he explains. But then there’s also the issue of keeping those bubbles clean. Thanks to the band’s nearly two-decade use of them, Coyne has become quite an expert in space bubbles - and by the time of the Criterion show, he had a pretty good sense of how and where to procure the ones that make the most sense for an audience. But I think we could do something where it’s in the new world, where we go a little slower with a little less people, and be a little bit more aware of who’s breathing on whom and stuff like that.” That’s just too many people having to help - too many flights, too many trucks. “I don’t think we’d want to take it on a fly-by-night tour like we’re used to doing before COVID. “I think we can definitely take it to other places,” he said. And then if they did, we’d try another one and go from there.”Ī space bubble tour is possible, but Coyne said it would have to be on a very small scale. “I feel like we would put one show on sale, and see if anybody wants to go. “Do you buy the front row? Do you buy by the row? And would people even know what a row is? It’s such an unknown world,” he says. And I think the Flaming Lips audience is the perfect audience to say ‘We’ll help you do this, we can make this work,’ because they’re a very smart, caring, giving kind of an audience.”Ĭoyne said they’ll announce the next show in November, with a December date, in order to give them a few weeks to figure out how to do it. “Let’s start with a little bit of an audience, and if we have to spread it out and play multiple nights, well, great. “I thought even the amount of audience we had for the video shoot was a little scary,” Coyne admits. There’s also the question of how big the crowd should be. Next up, because the bubbles are so big, Coyne is figuring out how many people to allow inside (there’s room for three) and whether, during a longer show, there should be a break to allow for air refreshing and restroom visits. “They’re getting drunk and they’re losing their minds and before you know it, they’re grabbing onto each other and they’re screaming in each other’s faces.” “Part of the dilemma of doing loud concerts is that it gets people excited,” Coyne says. (For the record, none of the 116 attendees needed to go during this show.) Among the logistical issues the band was looking at: How to safely assemble the audience outside, without it becoming a tailgate party getting the crowd inside the balloons and blowing them up, without it becoming a super-spreader event and even figuring out how many people might need to unzip and go to the bathroom during the show. Now it feels absolutely wonderful.”Ĭoyne said the event this month was a dress rehearsal for perhaps a full concert that he’d like to do December in the same location. “I worried mostly that something embarrassing would happen or it would look like it wasn’t safe. “It turned out more spectacular and more positive than I could have ever thought,” Coyne told Variety. 8/5/2023 0 Comments Little disc that goes in a 45You’ve recently bought your favourite record on vinyl and you just can’t get it out of your head that the speed doesn’t feel right. One day you might be listening to a record and feel the speed is a little off. But how do you check that the speed is correct? Read on! So, now you know all the background and basics about record player speed and how it all works. How To Test The Speed Of Your Record Player One issue with belt-drives is that, over time, the belt can stretch or slip meaning that the speed of your platter is more likely to change. However, having a belt-drive eliminates motor noise and gives you a more natural sound. The downside of this is that the vibrations from the motor, due to being directly under the platter, transfers some of its vibrations through the platter and can affect the sound you hear.īelt-drives, on the other hand, take longer to build up to their correct playing speed so you may have to wait a bit longer before dropping the needle on your favourite record. Well, wonder no more:ĭirect-drives are mainly used by DJ’s as they get up to speed pretty quickly and the platter is free from any resistance without a band – These are pretty much necessities for DJing and mixing. “But why are there two different versions, and what does this mean for the speed?” I hear you ask. A belt-drive record player has the motor offset which is connected to a spindle via a belt which then rotates the main platter – kind of like a pulley system. In very simple terms, direct-drive record players have the motor directly under the platter that rotates the platter from straight underneath. This helps determine the turntable speed. The type of drive your record player has is how the motor, which powers the movement of your record player, is connected to the system. (If you do want a bit of fun, however, some 45s can sound better slower… check out this article).ĭepending on which record player you have, you will either have a switch that you can flick to play at a speed of either 33 ⅓ or 45 RPM, or you may have to manually move the belt underneath the platter if you have a belt-drive system rather than a direct-drive system. If you play a 7 inch single at 33 ⅓ RPM, you will be transported to something in the realms of a horror movie as vocals linger and drawn out sounds feel muffled and distorted due to the slower speed. As you may know, if you put an LP (12 inch) on a record player at a 45 RPM speed, it will be going too fast and therefore all the music will sound like The Chipmunks. Got the basics? Good! But how can they both play on your record player? Well, your record player is probably quite clever, and can easily switch from one turntable speed to the other to accommodate playing either a 45 RPM record or a 33 ⅓ speed record. Because of this, 7-inch records are perfect for releasing singles which can house a couple of tracks on each side. 45 RPM (7 inch) records are smaller in size and cheaper to produce, and can house around 5 minutes per side. Due to the listening time of around 22 minutes, 33 ⅓ RPM (12 inch) records are primarily used for LPs (Long Play Records) which house full albums split over 2 sides. 8/5/2023 0 Comments 18 year macallan whiskeyThe copper comprising the stills acts as a catalyst and enhances the formation of sweet esters while minimizing impurities such as sulfur. Then, the barley is fermented with a specially cultured yeast before being distilled twice through The Macallan's copper-pot stills. In addition, the distillery contracts with farmers to purchase barley that is low in nitrogen and high in starch, resulting in a rich and oily whisky.Īfter the harvest, the barley is malted and mashed in one of The Macallan's two mash tuns, a process that takes between four and eight hours. Today, the Macallan Estate encompasses 370 acres, 95 of which are devoted to the production of the Macallan Estate's Minstrel barley (a single acre produces about 2.5 tons of barley each year, enough to yield 1,800 bottles of The Macallan). In the slow winter days, Reid would ferment and distill his excess grains into whisky, which was often drunk straight from the still or sold to travelers passing through the town. In 1820, Alexander Reid sowed the fields surrounding the rented home with barley and established the first licensed distillery on the estate, which he named Macallan after an ancient church that had been destroyed by fire during the 15th century. Situated on a ridge above the banks of the River Spey, the Easter Elchies House has been the spiritual home of The Macallan for over three centuries. 8/5/2023 0 Comments 3d coat brushesYou can help by converting this section, if appropriate. This section is in list format but may read better as prose. Normally, this kind of polygonal topology must be painstakingly produced by hand. With minimal input from the user, this technology generates an accurate and functional polygonal mesh skin over any voxel sculpture, (composed primarily of quadrangles), which is the standard that is widely used in 3D production studios. It includes "auto-retopology", a proprietary skinning algorithm. A live connection to a chosen external 3D application can be established through the Applink pipeline, allowing for the transfer of model and texture information.ģD-Coat specializes in voxel sculpting and polygonal sculpting using dynamic patch tessellation technology and polygonal sculpting tools. Imported models can be converted into voxel objects for further refinement and for adding high resolution detail, complete UV unwrapping and mapping, as well as adding textures for displacement, bump maps, specular and diffuse color maps. The program can also be used to modify imported 3D models from a number of commercial 3D software products by means of plugins called Applinks. Septem/ 2 Comments / by crwjaakko Tags: 3D modeling software, 3D software, 3D-Coat (Software), 3D-Coat 4.3D-Coat is a commercial digital sculpting program from Pilgway designed to create free-form organic and hard surfaced 3D models from scratch, with tools which enable users to sculpt, add polygonal topology (automatically or manually), create UV maps (automatically or manually), texture the resulting models with natural painting tools, and render static images or animated "turntable" movies. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial on PBR texturing in 3D Coat. Here is the video tutorial. I will just keep it as default and click checkboxes to export Color, Roughness, Normal, Metalness and AO. Now the textures are ready to go. This will export a lot of maps, including Displacement and Ambient Occlusion. We can choose several presets to export to, for example Unreal 4. The Spec-Gloss workflow is also supported. If you are exporting your textures to Unreal Engine 4 for example choose this. In Texture Export/Import Workflow I choose Roughness/Metalness. I will Export geometry, select Output mesh. They are used in designing assets for games and movies. They are used by individuals as well as organisations for the commercial production of animation works. And now when we erase the stencil is applied and we only erase certain areas.Įxporting options for Geometry and Texturesįinally, to export our textures, we can go to File and select Export Objects & Textures. 3D Coat and ZBrush both are advanced modelling and animation software used for creating different styles of animation. We can then scale this by using the magnifying glass in the preview options. In the middle panel, clicl Stencils and select OT_random6. Let’s use a stencil for cracked paint effect. It’s nice to accentuate some of the worn edge effects, and also I like to use square alpha for this, changing the brush size constantly. You can scroll with the mouse wheel to change size of the brush. It’s nicer to use those without much falloff to this task since we want the transition between painted area and bare metal to be sharp. I will select hard looking alpha from the Alphas panel, and start to chip away the paint. I like to chip some parts of the paint so that it looks less uniform and more organic. Now we can further tweak the paint layer. And again I will right click our PaintLayer and select Fill Whole Model. I’m going to give this Smart Material a new name, and hit Save as New. I like extreme effect so I am going to choose something around 5 or 6. This will allow to change strength of the Curvature Map, which means that you can choose how strongly you want the worn-edges effect to appear. We have plenty of options here, but I’d like to focus in Overall Cavity Modulator. Smart material editor in 3D Coat is easy to use. So I will right click the smart material I chose, and select Smart Material Editor. This effect is based on the Curvature Map that is automatically generated for you. Now, I’d like to edit the curvature effect more. Now, we can again use magnifying glass button in Preview options to get a nice scale of the effect. Again, use Smart Material Preview to get an idea how it will look like. I’m going to choose this beige one which I created myself. We can go to paints in Smart Materials tab and pick the one we like. Let’s Add a new layer by clicking the button of the lower right of Layers panel. You have just PBR textured a metal asset. We can preview and check our object in full PBR glory. Then, let’s double click this layer and rename it to BaseMetal. We can now right click Layer 1 and choose option “Fill whole layer”. 8/5/2023 0 Comments The ticker stockThe ticker is a constantly updated report of securities, their prices, trading volumes and change in prices during any given trading session. It is through these symbols that one learns to spot a company on the stock ticker. Stock symbols are a set of letters assigned to each company listed on the exchange. Identifying stock symbols and learning to read the stock ticker is the first step towards gaining a greater foothold into the world of stock market investing. Any beginner can look it up to learn more about the nuances of stock trading. Today, it is easy to find stock tickers online and on apps, and not just on financial websites. Any company stock that is seeing some out of the ordinary activity on a specific day may also find its way into the ticker. If the security is in the news for some reason and it is not exactly trading heavily, it still makes it to the stock ticker. So, the ticker display included the securities that have a heavy trade or those that are making news on a specific day. The stock ticker doesn’t show all the trades every day simply because there are thousands of companies that trade. Blue and white are often used to depict that there has been no change in the trading price of the stock from the prior day. The colour red shows that a company’s stock has been trading at a lower price than the earlier day. The colour green is used to show that the stock is doing better than the earlier day’s close. The exact change in price is also mentioned.Īlso, you may observe that there are several colours used in the ticker. The tiny arrow-like symbol is used and it could be downward facing or upward, depending on whether the stock trades higher or lower than the earlier day’s price at exit. The change in direction of price is shown. The price of each share for a specific trade is also mentioned in the stock ticker. The ticker also shows the number of shares traded, in thousands, millions or billions. The first thing to spot is the ticker symbol, which as explained before, is the arrangement or set of characters that identify a company. What does the ticker show or how does one read it? Any stock market enthusiast should first learn to look up the ticker so as to identify key companies and their stocks. The ticker also displays information such as volume of trading. The changing price is called a tick, in stock market parlance. The ticker updates and displays changing prices of a security. These are updated and real-time live prices keep appearing during the trading period. The stock ticker is a constantly changing, updated report of the price of securities. If you watched any sort of financial news report on the television or online, you must have noticed that the price of stocks are regularly moving. The record of activity pertaining to trading on the exchanges would be printed onto a paper strip that was narrow and thin, also called the tape. The ticker was the sound that the machine would make. Later in the early and mid 20th centuries, too the ticker tape machine was used in companies before the digital or electronic tickers made their appearance in the 90s. The ticker symbol has its origins from the 19th-century ticker tape machine. These easy stock symbols help analysts or even the regular investors to easily spot stocks and get all data related to that stock. A symbol for X company could be one set of letters/characters for the NSE and another for the NYSE or so on. The ticker symbol may be different for a stock in a different stock exchange. All companies get their own stock symbols and this ensures ease of transactions on a daily basis. Typically, companies are asked to pick a ticker symbol available at that point. The symbol is assigned to a company that is listed and goes on to issue its stock. The ticker symbol is the arrangement of characters you see against a particular security. One of the elementary aspects of stock market investing is to know what the ticker is all about. Before 9/11, the staircase rising from the lower level was actually the only way to access the main level kiosk. This staircase allows workers to quickly access the upper and lower levels of the station. The brass spiral staircase is accessed through the sliding doors of the brass structure at the center of the kiosk. Metro-North workers inside the information kiosk beneath the iconic milk glass (also known as opaline glass)-faced clock in the center of the main atrium are guarding one of the terminal’s oldest secrets, a hidden staircase that connects the upper and lower levels. A SECRET STAIRCASE INSIDE THE INFORMATION KIOSK. Luckily, the German plans were foiled by a member of the Coast Guard, who spotted them before they could even make it to the station.Ĥ. If the saboteurs were successful in damaging the converters and shutting down the railway system, they would have halted 80% of troop and war material movement in the northeast. During the War, German saboteurs were sent to disrupt the converters, an attack that would have been a major blow to the American force. A simple bag of sand could have sabotaged the whole system. Especially during World War II, it was imperative that the railroads ran without a hitch, as trains were used to transport troops and weapons to the ports of the east coast. The converters, which weigh 15 tons each, are no longer in use, but one remains in place as a tribute to its former service. What was so important inside this subterranean room? Nine rotary converters that provided power for all of the trains that ran through Grand Central. If an unauthorized person made his way down to the M42 basement, he risked being shot. The location’s mere existence was only recognized as recently as the late 1980s. Ten stories below Grand Central Terminal’s main atrium there lies a space that is so secretive it doesn’t appear on any maps or blueprints of the terminal. A special key and a bit of nerve are required to gain access and traverse the elevated glass pathways. The catwalks that run across the massive windows connect offices so employees do not have to fight through the crowds within the station to get where they need to go. While most people will recognize the signature glass windows of Grand Central Terminal’s atrium, many may be surprised to know that those windows contain walkways.
